Not all carriers handle temperature-sensitive shipments equally. FedEx Priority Overnight and UPS Next Day Air are the standard carriers for pharmaceutical cold-chain shipments. Ground shipping is not appropriate for temperature-sensitive compounds.

Overnight shipments of refrigerated compounds should include:

• Insulated packaging (foam or equivalent) that maintains temperature for the transit duration
• Packaging that accounts for seasonal temperature variation

Some suppliers include temperature indicators or data loggers in shipments. These provide documentation that the cold chain was maintained during transit.
